how we keep our privacy promise.
cannabis is personal. the app should act like it.
we put a promise in the footer of our website before we ever had a single user: your data is yours. we don't sell it, we don't use it for ads, and your journal stays private unless you choose to share. no paid influence, no hidden data sharing, no weird stuff.
that's easy to say. every app says something like it. so here's what it actually means in practice, in plain language.
your journal is private by default. every session you log is yours alone. nobody sees it, nobody can look it up, and there is no setting you have to find and switch off to make that true. the only thing other people ever see is a rec you deliberately chose to post to the feed.
your photos are scrubbed before they ever reach us. every photo you take carries hidden information inside the file: gps coordinates, your exact device, the precise time it was taken. it's called exif metadata, and most people have no idea it exists. when you add a photo to easyhour, it gets re-encoded on your phone before upload, which strips all of it. the location of your living room never touches our servers, because it never leaves your phone. we didn't take this on faith, either. we tested it ourselves, pulling real uploads out of storage and inspecting the raw files. clean.
we don't know who you are, and we like it that way. easyhour has no demographic profile to fill out. no age bracket, no gender, no interests checklist. the app doesn't need to know who you are to be useful to you, so it doesn't ask.
what we do collect, in one honest paragraph: your email and display name, so you have an account. the sessions and recs you write, so the app can show them back to you. approximate location when you allow it, so "nearby" means something. and basic usage and crash data, so we can tell when something's broken. that's the list. the full legal version is in our privacy policy, but it says the same thing with more commas.
when you see "trending nearby," that's arithmetic, not surveillance. it's a count of what people in your area are recommending, added up. no individual journal is ever the source of anything anyone else sees.
and the part that matters most: there are no ads here, and there never will be. no sponsored strains, no promoted posts, no advertisers to package you up for. the entire reason most apps harvest data is to sell your attention. we don't sell attention, so we don't need the harvest.
we built easyhour to be the place where you can be completely honest about what you tried and how it actually felt. that only works if it's safe to be honest.
the quiet is the feature. the privacy is the foundation.
